Emergency Dental Care
There are all sorts of dental emergencies, and they have one thing in common; you need relief, and you need it now. Even if you are not in pain, in most cases, we need to see you as soon as possible to prevent further damage to the tooth and your oral health.
When you need an emergency dentist in Pen Argyl because you have a toothache or you broke a tooth, our dental team is here to help. Dental emergencies are an unfortunate part of life, so we always leave some extra time in our schedule and can usually see you on the same day.
Dental Emergencies We Treat
If you think you have a dental emergency, call us first. Toothaches are your body’s way of telling you that the tooth is decayed or infected and needs immediate attention. Teeth don’t heal themselves, and avoiding treatment will only result in continued pain and possible tooth loss.
Some of the dental emergencies we commonly treat at our Pen Argyl dental office are:
- Broken teeth
- Chipped teeth
- Lost dental crowns or fillings
- Infected or abscessed teeth
- Severely decayed teeth
- Knocked-out teeth
If you broke a tooth or lost a dental crown or filling, we may not need to see you immediately, unless you are in pain. In this case, we’ll schedule your treatment for our next available appointment.
However, if you are in pain, we need to see you right away to provide the relief you need and protect your oral health.
A lost tooth is the most critical of all dental emergencies. There’s a window of only a few hours in which we may successfully place the tooth back in its socket. Handle the tooth by the crown only and keep it moist in a container of milk, saliva, or water. Call us right away.
How to Avoid Dental Emergencies
You can’t avoid every dental emergency. But if you visit our Pen Argyl dental office routinely for preventive dental exams and teeth cleanings, we can make sure your smile is healthy and problem-free.
During your six-month dental checkups, Dr. Burke will also check the condition of your crowns and fillings and make sure they’re intact. We’ll look for signs of gum disease and tooth decay, and if we find a problem, we can address it before you get a toothache.
